Goods Carrier Vehicle Passing in India – Full Guide (2025)

🚛 Goods Carrier Vehicle Passing in India – Full Guide (2025)

If you own a Commercial Goods Vehicle like a Tata Ace, Mahindra Pickup, Bolero Camper, or truck, you are required to get it passed and certified by the RTO. This process ensures your vehicle is roadworthy and meets all safety and pollution standards.

📑 Documents Required for Goods Carrier Passing

  • Registration Certificate (RC Book)
  • Valid Insurance Certificate
  • Pollution Under Control (PUC) Certificate
  • Old Fitness Certificate (in case of renewal)
  • Commercial Permit (if applicable)
  • Road Tax Receipt
  • Owner's ID Proof (Aadhar, PAN, etc.)
  • Chassis Number Pencil Print or Photograph

🛠️ Goods Vehicle Passing Process

Step 1: Book Vehicle Inspection Slot

You may need to book a time slot online or offline with your local RTO to present your vehicle for inspection.

Step 2: Physical Inspection at RTO

The RTO inspector checks your vehicle's brakes, lights, horn, tires, mirrors, and general roadworthiness. Make sure your vehicle is clean and mechanically fit.

Step 3: Document Verification

The RTO officer verifies all required documents. If everything is in order, the vehicle passes the inspection.

Step 4: Issuance of Fitness Certificate

Once approved, a new Fitness Certificate (FC) is issued. It is usually valid for 2 years for goods carriers, after which annual renewals are required.

💵 Charges and Fees (2025)

Service Approximate Fee
Inspection Fee ₹600 – ₹1,000
Fitness Certificate Fee ₹200 – ₹500
Late Renewal Penalty ₹50 per day (may vary by state)

📖 Real-Life Case: Amar Transport – Nashik

Amar runs a small goods transport business in Nashik with three Mahindra Bolero pickup trucks. In 2023, the vehicles were due for fitness renewal, but due to negligence, he delayed the process by 4 months.

When Amar finally went to the RTO, he had to pay a penalty of over ₹7,000 for late renewal. In addition, two of the trucks failed the inspection because of brake light issues. He had to get the repairs done and return for re-inspection.

Since then, Amar has introduced a routine vehicle check-up system every six months to avoid any penalties or business disruption.
